Whether you come to Julian from far away places or from just “down the hill,” Julian has so much to offer in the way of sites and activities. Julian has long been revered as a special place. It is, of course, a way to escape the city noises and fast pace. Julian moves a bit slower. You’ll catch folks having conversations instead of hurrying in and out. We encourage you to take it all in, slow down and enjoy the fresh air and friendly people.
Depending on the day of the week that you visit, Julian can be seen in different ways. During the week you can follow our self-guided history walk. Pick up the map at Town Hall and make your way through the town and learn about the historic buildings, including our “old Julian jail.” Even if you are not a history buff it is a great walk to help you see much of downtown Julian. Shop our local stores and enjoy our local fare at one of our many restaurants. If you are here on a weekend day, you’ll find many activities hosted by local businesses. You can enjoy a hayride, climb a rock wall, check out two local hard cider tasting rooms. Most days of the week you’ll find wine and craft beer tasting opportunities.
Any day of the week in our area you can find just the right hike for you and your crew. From a casual, sight-filled stroll at Lake Cuyamaca to the challenge of Volcan Mountain. Gold mine tours are also available, daily.
Museums and art galleries are also found in Julian. We encourage you to venture off Main Street and check out unique shops and eateries. Wynola, just three miles west of Julian, boasts restaurants, antiques, and activities.
No trip to Julian is complete without a visit to Lake Cuyamaca. It is a lovely little lake with boat rentals, fishing, and views of our beautiful, natural environment. You can even enjoy lunch overlooking the lake.
As you can see, there are many ways to enjoy Julian. We hope you find these and even more to make your visit an enjoyable one.
